Vauxhall - Tim - 28 Sept 2008 - Dinner Club Launched!

Last night the dinner club met for the first time. The venue was chosen by Tim, and was a Portugese restaurant in Vauxhall. Name and exact address unknown.

I suggest blogging as a way to track details and scores.

Add your comments for things like:
- what was eaten
- whether it was good
- restaurant ambience/decor/fellow diners
- service and staff
- local area
- price
- and of course, most importantly, the SCORES

Have fun!

Pico Bar and Restaurant in Vauxhall (Albert Embankment) is a slightly odd looking place under a railway in Vauxhall. It was rough on the way in with a loud bar populated, I suspect, by mainly MI5 agents finished for the day.

Anyway. The wine wasn't cheap but tasted it. The food was bad. Just not right, fine if it was £3 a dish but £5 for a plate of bitter peppers? No thanks.

The toilets topped it off as one if the cublicles had fresh sick coating the floor.

Dismal. Fun night, of course. 3/10.

It was a nice night at Pico Bar and Restaurant, only slightly tarnished by the food, the local area, the ambience, the wine and the service. The “sick” in the toilets didn't help matters at all nor did one of London’s famous saunas located just next door. To use one of Mrs. Langley's phrases "If they can't keep the toilet cleans, imagine what they do to the food". Never quite sure of the logic there but it helps to illustrate the point.
Without further a do, I declare 3/10.

Well not much to add to the previous reviewers.

I agree the tapas plates seemed expensive but actually the total of 60 pounds for 4 is not that bad.

My favourite dish of the evening: patatas bravas. Or maybe the lamb.

I was thinking of giving 1/10 since I hope very much that everywhere the dinner club visits in future will be better, but 1/10 has to be reserved for places that leave lingering regrets or injuries. This place was harmless and we had fun: 3/10

Wow, the Pico bar...want a find!? Everything seemed so good when we walked into the buzzing bar but then we found ourselves in a 70's style wedding reception area at the back...with waiters that didn't seem to want to serve us!

The food was tapas style..we had about 10 dishes all of varying quality. I had to call it a night when I winced as I ate one of the green peppers!

So from me it was a 3.75...because of the banter and piss taking. Well done Timmy.
